Bas Dost assured he has a future at Wolfsburg

Bas Dost has been linked with a move away from Wolfsburg, but the Bundesliga side insist he remains part of their plans.

Newcastle United have been among those credited with holding an interest in the 25-year-old striker.

Dost’s efforts in his native Holland with Heerenveen first brought him to the attention of European scouts, earning him a move to Germany in 2012.

He has found goals harder to come by in the Bundesliga, but fitness issues have done little to aid his cause.

The former Dutch U21 international is, however, free of injury at present and Wolfsburg will continue to fend off transfer talk as they endeavour to bring the best out of a proven frontman.

General manager Klaus Allofs told Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung: “We know what Bas Dost is capable of. He is only just back to fitness.

“We know he has the desire to play regularly but he has to be patient now.

“His time will come. Things do not happen in the blink of an eye, that is for sure.

“We do not want to sell Bas Dost. There are no selling tactics.

“I still think he is able to be a regular goalscorer in the Bundesliga in the long run.”
