Football surface seminar highlights maintenance techniques - FIFA WOMEN'S WORLD CUP

The National Organising Committee (NOC) has organised a three-day working seminar that will ensure optimal playing conditions at the FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015. The seminar highlighted maintenance techniques and requirements for FIFA 2 Star Recommended football turf.

Representatives from all six host cities attended the Football Surface Seminar from 24-26 March in Edmonton, AB. The seminar provided city representatives with the technical guidelines to ensure the football turf is in the best possible condition come June and July 2015.

"All 24 world finalists will have the opportunity to train and play on the best football surfaces during the FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015," said Victor Montagliani, Chair of the NOC. "It is important that we have the best infrastructure in place for both this summer's stars during the competition as well as the next generation of stars that will use the facilities for years to come in our Canadian communities."

The first day featured an overview of maintenance as well as a review of equipment and techniques. The second day featured a review of requirements, including field patterns, line painting and pitch watering. The third day featured a recap and explanation of field testing.

Quality football turf is an essential part of the FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015, ensuring that all 24 finalists will have an equal and competitive playing surface at all six stadiums and 18 training sites from coast to coast across Canada. The improved surfaces will also provide communities with a sporting legacy that will last well beyond the 52-match finals.
