The FIFA Interactive World Cup made history today with the launch of FIWC 2016 - the official FIFA tournament that will decide the world’s best gamer for EA SPORTS™ FIFA 16.

The 2016 edition – the 12th of the tournament – marks the first time that FIFA’s virtual equivalent of the World Cup is available on both of the world’s leading gaming platforms, Playstation®4 and Xbox One. From 1 October, fans can fire up their copies of EA SPORTS™ FIFA 16 and compete for a place at the 2016 Grand Final, which will be held in New York. There are three monthly online qualifier seasons in total for FIWC 2016. Visit the Tournament Format section for a complete breakdown of the online seasons and available qualification seats per season.

The world’s biggest gaming tournament
The FIFA Interactive World Cup has been recognised as the world’s largest gaming tournament since 2010 by the Guinness World Record’s Gamer's Edition. Over 1.2 million players competed in FIWC 2015 and with the expansion of the tournament to include the two leading gaming platforms for the first time, the 2016 edition could shatter the all-time FIWC record, which stands at a staggering 2.5 million competitors for FIWC 2013.

With kick-off underway, only one question remains for virtual footballers. Do you have what it takes to win a seat at the Grand Final and receive a shot at the world title? The winner of the FIWC 2016 Grand Final – which will be held in New York – will receive $20,000 USD and a trip for two to the next FIFA Ballon d’Or.
