Two-time African champions Enyimba will represent Nigeria in next year's CAF Champions League after they won a seventh Nigerian league championship at the weekend.

Enyimba, known as 'The People's Elephant' by fans, were held to a goalless draw by closest rivals Warri Wolves on Sunday to reach an unassailable 69 points in the Nigeria Premier League.

Despite playing a man short after forward Daniel Etor was sent off in the 50th minute for punching an opponent, the home team held out in front of a record 40,000 fans at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba, southeast Nigeria. Enyimba last won the league in 2010.

Coach Kadiri Ikhana, who led them to their first CAF Champions League triumph in 2003, praised his team for clinching the trophy after their last conquest in 2010.

"We are happy that we have won the league again. As a coach, I am happy and I commend the players for their commitment," the veteran coach said.

He added: "We must now re-group and come back stronger next season."
