The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Jordan 2016 held a workshop for sponsors and representatives of the host cities, run by Jana Zimmermann and Sarah Gandoin from FIFA’s marketing and events management department.

FIFA representatives set out information and requirements relating to sponsors, so that they can make the most of their involvement and advertise on behalf of their teams in a way that corresponds to international competition standards.

This initiative also encompassed activities that sponsors will help to put in place before and during the competition, and the media coverage from which they will benefit. The workshop was also a chance to emphasise the role of partners in promoting the event.

“Jordan’s preparations for hosting the tournament have been exceptional,” said FIFA Marketing Director Thierry Weil. “We think that holding this kind of workshop will contribute effectively to finalising the plans of everyone involved in the competition. It will also help to bring everyone together prior to the start of the festival of football in September. We expect a lot from our sponsors in terms of promoting women’s football in Jordan and in the wider region.”

Rahaf Owais, the LOC's Marketing and Communications Director, delivered a presentation on the competition’s promotional plan, which provided an opportunity to highlight all of the tools available. The aim of this programme is to increase community involvement in all of the communication campaigns related to the tournament.

“Hosting an international competition on this scale in Jordan requires the implementation of a substantial marketing plan,” said Omais at the end of the workshop. “The LOC will ensure that the marketing plan features numerous activities to promote this international event, on all media channels and platforms. The objective is to enable Jordan to establish a lasting legacy.”

The workshop, which lasted several days, was attended by all stakeholders, including representatives of the councils of the three host cities: Amman, the Jordanian capital, Zarqa and Irbid. The workshop addressed a number of points aimed at marketing the cities to tourists, given that Jordan will be the first country in the region to host an international women’s football tournament.

FIFA delegates and the LOC’s working group spent two days visiting the four stadiums that will stage matches at Jordan 2016, Amman International Stadium, King Abdullah II Stadium, Prince Mohammed Stadium and Al Hassan Stadium, and noted that the arenas were ready for promotional activities.
