Atletico Madrid sent holders Barcelona out of the UEFA Champions League with a 2-0 victory at the Vicente Calderon, completing a 3-2 aggregate win over the five-time winners. Bayern Munich saw off Benfica in their quarter-final second leg, also winning 3-2 on aggregate after a 2-2 draw at the Estadio da Luz to join Atleti, Manchester City and Real Madrid in the semi-finals.
Antoine Griezmann's double was enough to dump out the holders Barça and see Atleti to a 2-0 win on the night at the Vicente Calderon, meaning a 3-2 aggregate draw and victory on away goals for Diego Simeone's men.
In Lisbon, Bayern recovered from going behind to Raul Jimenez's brave early header to beat Benfica on aggregate, courtesy of goals from Arturo Vidal and Thomas Muller, and maintain Pep Guardiola's superlative record in Europe's premier club competition. Talisca's late free-kick was a mere consolation for Rui Vitoria's side.
