Mats Hummels, who played in Germany’s historic 7-1 thumping of Brazil, believes the five-time FIFA World Cup™ winners have re-established themselves as one of the best teams on the planet.
“I watch some Brazil games, but I only saw the goals against Argentina,” said the 27-year-old Bayern Munich centre-back. “I think they have an impressive team, they’ve integrated some youngsters who weren’t there two years ago. I think Brazil are back on top.”
Brazil’s impeccable form in Russia 2018 qualifying – they have won all six matches under Tite’s command to rocket four points clear at the top of the South American standings – hasn’t gone unnoticed by the man who masterminded Germany’s victory in Belo Horizonte.
“I’ve been really impressed by Brazil,” said Joachim Low earlier this week. “I’ve been following them and from what I’ve seen, they’ve definitively overcome the 7-1.”
Hummels said: “I don’t want to talk about this game anymore. It was just a game, a fantastic day for us. But it’s a result that could have gone both ways. If a team has a bad day and their opponents manage to score every time they take a shot, it can happen, but I don’t want to make this game out to be bigger than it was.”
Germany's thrashing of Brazil at the Estadio Mineirao was only the sides' second meeting at the World Cup. Ronaldo inspired A Seleção to a 2-0 victory in the first in the Korea/Japan 2002 Final.
