Callum McGregor signs five-year deal with Celtic

Celtic forward Callum McGregor has signed a new five-year deal after making an impressive start to the season.

The 21-year-old has been a regular in Ronny Deila's side this season and has scored four goals, three of them in the Champions League qualifiers.

McGregor showed his promise last season in a loan spell with Notts County, where he scored 14 goals.

Since returning to Celtic Park, he has scored the winner in the 1-0 victory over KR Reykjavik in July and also tallied against Legia Warsaw and Maribor, although the latter tie ended in disappointment for the Scottish champions, who lost 2-1 on aggregate to drop into the Europa League.

McGregor also scored in their 3-0 SPFL win over St Johnstone and was handed a place in the senior Scotland squad by Gordon Strachan earlier this week.

“Right now I’m just delighted though in securing my future for the next five years at a massive club like Celtic. Hopefully I can continue to do well for the club," McGregor said.

“I don’t think I could have imagined how well things have gone.”

McGregor also had his say on the Europa League group draw which pitted Celtic against FC Salzburg, Dinamo Zagreb and FC Astra from Romania.

He added: “I think it’s a decent draw. There’s some good teams in there and hopefully some good games for our supporters to enjoy

"It’s a good test as well. The Champions League is done and dusted but we’re still playing European football and it’s still a good level for the boys to test themselves. Hopefully we can build a squad to come back strong next year.

“It’s massive for me. You have to keep testing yourself at a high level and that’s what you want as a young player. I want to keep getting better and honing my skills, working on all aspects of my game both defensivly and in attack."
