Legacy key as Toronto hosts coaching workshop - FIFA U-20 WOMEN'S WORLD CUP

Toronto's Four Seasons Hotel is currently hosting a FIFA Women’s Football Regional Coaching Workshop, which between 4 and 13 August - as part of Canada 2014's legacy programme - will aim to improve 30 coaches' knowledge and skills in teaching the game to young players.
All of these coaches represent the Confederation of North, Central American and the Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), while the ten-day workshop is being delivered by FIFA instructors, Hope Powell and Beatrice Von Siebenthal.
Various aspects of the game are being covered, from the role of the coach through the characteristics of female players, the methodology for coaching youngsters and goalkeepers, to physical training.
Guest speakers for the opening ceremony, meanwhile, included FIFA’s Director for Member Associations and Development, Thierry Regenass, Sonia Bien-Aime, co-opted member FIFA’s Executive Committee, and Earl Cochrane, Deputy Secretary General of the Canadian Soccer Association.
Regenass spoke of the workshop being an example of the world governing body's cast-iron commitment to the women's game. “FIFA is doubling the investment in women’s football for the next four year," he said.
"FIFA aims to support women’s football leagues and competitions at various levels, specific grassroots programmes for girls and would like to ensure that every girl who wants to play have the opportunity to get in involved in football.”
