Benik Afobe praise by MK Dons assistant Richie Barker

Benik Afobe praise by MK Dons assistant Richie Barker

MK Dons assistant manager Richie Barker admitted the good form of his side's strikers are causing a headache after Benik Afobe scored both goals in their 2-0 victory over Bradford in the Capital One Cup.

Afobe has scored nine goals this season, including five in this competition, while Will Grigg has struck five times - with the Dons rotating between the two this season.

It was Arsenal loanee Afobe who shone against Bradford as he matched his brace in the Dons' 4-0 rout of Manchester United last month to book their place in the fourth round for the first time.

Barker said: "The way Benik took his first goal was excellent.

"We watched it again at half-time on the computer and I didn't realise how good it was until I saw it second time around, but Benik has got everything.

"To be fair to him and Will, who we've rotated, they've been fantastic and pretty much every time one of them has started they've ended up scoring.

"It gives us a headache whenever we have sessions about team selection but this was Benik's night and I thought he was excellent.

"This performance was different from Crewe last Saturday, but impressive in its own way.

"We aren't going to dictate every game and obviously Saturday was fantastic, but this was about progressing in the cup and winning the game in a slightly different way.

"We knew it was going to be tough but we've progressed, we've kept a clean sheet and our centre forward scored two goals"

Afobe opened the scoring after five minutes when he took Darren Potter's pass, turned before slamming his shot into the bottom corner.

He sealed the tie with five minutes left when he kept his nerve when put through one-on-one by a long pass over the top.

Bradford boss Phil Parkinson said: "I thought from the first goal to the second goal we probably edged it out there.

"We played a lot of good stuff although we couldn't get the goal, but if you're going to lose a game of football, there's a way of losing and I thought our performance level was very good.

"We had a lot of youngsters on the pitch and on the bench, but I thought all-round we couldn't have asked for much more.

"Afobe has taken his two goals great and that's probably the difference on the night.

"Some of our approach play up and around the final third was very good, very controlled but we couldn't get that goal when we needed to get back into the game.

"I felt the momentum was with us in the second half - obviously goals are so important but generally I was pleased with how we played."
