Film celebrating life of Bobby Moore to coincide with 1966 anniversary
A documentary celebrating the life of Bobby Moore has been commissioned to coincide with the 50th anniversary of England's 1966 World Cup triumph.
Archive footage and interviews from Moore's life, along with stories from his glittering football career will be compiled to honour the former England captain, who lost his battle with cancer in February 1993.
The feature-length film has been directed by filmmaker Finn McGough and written and produced by former Sky Sports News presenter Matt Lorenzo.
Lorenzo, who knew Moore personally, said: "He was a kind, humble man who always had time for people.
"I can't think of any greater hero in our national game and to have known him personally only deepens my admiration.
"His was a life touched with glory, struggle, tremendous challenges and, towards the end, ill-deserved disappointment."
The project has been fully endorsed by the Football Association, who see the production as an excellent tribute to an English sporting icon.
An FA statement released as filming began on September 3 read: "Outside Wembley Stadium there stands one statue: that of Bobby Moore.
"As we approach the 50th anniversary of England’s finest sporting moment, it is fitting we remember one of our greatest footballers by supporting the film that celebrates his life."
The Bobby Moore film will be released in the summer of 2016 and will launch at a World Charity Premiere in aid of the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK, which will receive a percentage of the film's profits.
Moore's widow and founder of the Fund, Stephanie Moore, has also given the film her blessing, stating: "I really appreciate the filmmakers' support for the Bobby Moore Fund."
