Hull City record signing Abel Hernandez turned down Benfica offer

Hull City record signing Abel Hernandez says he rejected Benfica in favour of a "dream" Premier League move on deadline day.

Hernandez, who joined from Palermo for an undisclosed fee reported to be in the region of £9.5million, could make his Tigers debut at home to West Ham on Monday Night Football.

The 24-year-old Uruguay striker had spent the past five seasons in Italy with Palermo, but admitted he was keen for a new challenge despite helping them to Serie A promotion.

"I had six years at Palermo. I lived beautiful and ugly moments and it was time for a change. I can’t wait to start," he told tuttomercatoweb.com.

"I have gone to the best league in the world. Benfica wanted me too but I wanted the Premier League and it will be a wonderful experience.

"I’m ready to play in England, it has always been my dream. I thank Hull City for opening the door to me. I hope to repay their trust.

"I signed a three-year contract with an option for a fourth year. I will do my best to achieve all the goals, the first is survival."
