Southend v Shrewsbury preview

Team news for Saturday's League Two clash between Southend United and Shrewsbury Town at Roots Hall.

The Shrimpers could have Cian Bolger and Ryan Leonard back for the visit of Shrewsbury.

It was hoped centre-half Bolger would resume training on Thursday following his thigh strain, while fellow defender Leonard is responding well to treatment on his hamstring injury.

Barry Corr returned from a neck injury last weekend at York, where the striker was an unused substitute, and he should be included in the squad once again.

Meanwhile, Ben Coker has had the cast removed on his injured elbow. The defender is not on the verge of a comeback at this stage but he is close to resuming full training.

Skipper Liam Lawrence returned to the Shrewsbury line-up for the first time since being sent off last month for Tuesday's Capital One Cup win over Norwich and hopes to retain his place for the League Two trip to Southend.

"I'm happy to be back in the team," he said. "I've been trying to keep positive and was happy to get a run out and play well.

Midfielder Cameron Gayle returned to the starting XI for the midweek Capital One Cup win against Norwich following an ankle injury and should retain his place but Andy Robinson remains a doubt with a quad problem.

The Shrews are on a high after beating the Canaries in midweek and drawing Chelsea at home in the next round, but manager Micky Mellon told the Shropshire Star: "It's important for us to focus on the bread and butter before then. We don't want people getting carried away."
