Adam Rooney thinks that Aberdeen's 2-2 draw against St Mirren is a wake-up calll
Adam Rooney admits Aberdeen have been given a wake-up call after throwing away their two-goal lead against St Mirren.
Mark Reynolds and Peter Pawlett looked to have sealed the Dons’ fourth Pittodrie victory in a row, but a Callum Ball goal and a last-minute Kenny McLean penalty earned the visitors a dramatic 2-2 draw.
Speaking to RedTV striker Rooney said: “Maybe we were a bit naive with the way we defended on Tuesday.
“Because of how well we have been doing at home this season, we wanted to keep going forward.
“With the number of goals we have been scoring, we felt like we could have kicked on and scored more.
“That's something we always want to do - we don't just want to sit back and be happy with what we have got.
“But at the same time we have to be more clever next time and see the game out. It felt like a defeat after being two goals up.
“It's something we will have to think about going forward. It's a bit of a wake-up call for us. You should never let a team back in when you are 2-0 up."
