St Johnstone end run of defeats with goalless draw at Partick

St Johnstone ended a run of five straight defeats with a hard-fought goalless draw at Partick Thistle on Saturday afternoon.

A low-key first half saw Partick control much of the possession, but their visitors create the two best chances.

Saints began well, with Brian Graham firing into the side netting after new Partick defender Frederic Frans failed to deal with a long ball into the box from Dave Mackay.

Patrick slowly grew into the game and a slick move released James Craigen into the box, but his low drive from 12 yards was straight at St Johnstone keeper Alan Mannus.

Steven Lawless' weaving run then looked to have created a chance for Kris Doolan only for the forward to tread on the ball and Craigen's subsequent effort to be blocked.

The visitors then created their best chances of the opening 45 minutes as Lee Croft forced a save from Scott Fox before Graham headed wide from Croft's corner when well placed.

Partick continued to dictate possession after the break and Christie Elliot shot wide after cutting inside from the left, but they struggled to create clear-cut opportunities and with St Johnstone a threat on the break, Croft squandered another chance with only Fox to beat as the points were shared at Firhill.
