Wolves will listen to Premier League interest in Bakary Sako
Wolves boss Kenny Jackett has confirmed talks will take place with Bakary Sako in January over a new contract but admits there is no guarantee of a deal being agreed.
The 26-year-old Mali international will be a free agent next summer if nothing is sorted out and has been linked with a step up to the Premier League.
Jacket accepts that if the right offer comes along, it will be hard to turn down, but for now he is just hoping Sako stays focused on helping Wolves to push for a second straight promotion.
"There has been so much speculation about Sako since I came here that it goes over my head now," Jackett told the club website. "There has been a continued stream really, of information going on about him.
"He has really kept his head down, he has kept playing. Nobody really has come. He is still here. Our club are doing reasonably well, we have progressed anyway and he has been central to what we have done.
"All of your players are susceptible to clubs higher up being interested and Sako is no different, but it goes over my head anyway because there has been a lot of speculation."
Sako is currently away on African Nations Cup duty with Mali, but has scored five times in the Championship this term.
Regarding a contract extension, Jackett added: "We'll just keep assessing it as we get towards January. It's not something we're going to do right now, but anyone approaching the end of his contract will be discussed and it will be. Most importantly, the player is comfortable with where he is.
"I am sure that speculation will continue right the way through. Both myself and him have been clear that should a Premier League club come in, that's what he wants to do. But it hasn't come up to the level that's reasonable."
