Manchester United's Paddy McNair included in Northern Ireland squad
Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill has included Manchester United defender Paddy McNair in his squad for next week's match against Romania.
The 19-year-old missed out on a debut call-up against Faroe Islands last month due to a hamstring injury, but he has been brought in as cover for Aaron Hughes.
McNair has featured three times for United this season, including in Saturday's derby defeat to Manchester City.
Hughes suffered an ankle injury playing for Brighton and despite being named in O'Neill's pool he must be considered a major doubt for the European Qualifier in Bucharest.
O'Neill's men have made a stunning start to their Group F campaign with three straight wins including a 2-0 triumph in Greece last month.
West Brom midfielder Chris Brunt returns to the squad after missing the wins against Greece and the Faroe Islands.
The Irish will be without Manchester United defender Jonny Evans and Hull City defender Alex Bruce for the match on November 14.
Northern Ireland squad: Carroll (Notts C), Mannus (St Johnstone), McGovern (Hamilton); Hughes (Brighton), Baird, McAuley (both West Brom), McGivern (Port Vale), Cathcart (Watford), R McLaughlin (Liverpool), C McLaughlin (Fleetwood), McCullough (Doncaster); McNair (Man Utd), Davis (Southampton), Brunt (West Brom), Clingan (Kilmarnock), Evans (Blackburn), Norwood (Reading), Reeves (MK Dons); McCourt (Brighton), Lafferty (Norwich), McGinn (Aberdeen), Ward (Derby), McKay (Inverness), Magennis (Kilmarnock), Grigg (MK Dons).
