FIFA & CAF sign collaboration agreement
FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) today signed a cooperation agreement to reinforce their collaboration in the field of football development. Meeting ahead of the CAF African Cup of Nations (AFCON) final in Equatorial Guinea, FIFA President Blatter, FIFA Secretary General Jérôme Valcke, CAF President Issa Hayatou and CAF Secretary General Hicham El Amrani formalised the agreement with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.
“FIFA and CAF have a common commitment to the development of football. The aim of this agreement is to create synergies between our development programmes, maximise the positive impact and provide localised and tailor-made solutions for CAF’s member associations”, said President Blatter.
The collaboration agreement will apply to a number of development areas including technical support and education for coaches, referees, grassroots, youth, club licensing, management and administration, players’ registration and sports medical development.
The initiative builds on the positive experience from a similar agreement that FIFA signed with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in 2012 and discussions are underway to reach such collaboration agreement with other confederations.
