Lorient hold Lyon, Bordeaux beat Etienne

French Ligue 1 leaders Lyon dropped points as they were held to a 1-1 draw at strugglers Lorient on Sunday. Jordan Ayew put Lorient ahead in the 50th minute before Clinton N'Jie equalised for Lyon in the 77th.

Lyon are two points ahead of second-placed Marseille, who were also held to a draw - 2-2 against Reims - on Friday. Bordeaux's push for a top-four finish appears to be back on track after they squeezed out Saint-Etienne 1-0 to make it back-to-back league wins.

A run of six matches without victory had seen Les Girondins slip off the pace in the battle for European football, but Diego Rolan's goal was enough to earn them three points as they closed the gap on their fourth-placed opponents to just one point.

Metz's attempts to stay up took another blow after they suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Guingamp. Christophe Mandanne put the visitors ahead after 26 minutes before Jeremy Pied doubled their advantage six minutes before the break.

It means Metz have not won in 14 matches, taking just two points from those matches and the future for Ligue 1's bottom club looks even more bleak.
