74 days to go - FIFA WOMEN'S WORLD CUP

74 days to go - FIFA WOMEN'S WORLD CUP

Michelle Akers finished top of the scoring charts at the inaugural FIFA Women’s World Cup™ in 1991, scoring a total of ten goals, including five in one game against Chinese Taipei in the quarter-finals.

More importantly, perhaps, Akers - who donned the No10 shirt for the Americans -  netted both of the Stars and Stripes' goals in the Final against Norway to win the first Women's World Cup 2-1, with Akers' second strike coming just two minutes from full time.

Germany’s Heidi Mohr scored 7 at China PR 1991, while Carin Jennings of USA and Norway’s Linda Medalen shared the adidas Bronze Shoe, with six goals each.
