West Bromwich Albion have signed Hull City defender James Chester in a deal worth up to £8m.
The Wales international, a product of Manchester United's youth academy, agreed a four-year contract at The Hawthorns after completing a medical earlier in the week.

Albion will only pay Championship club Hull the full £8m if all the contract clauses related to the centre-back's performances and the team's success are triggered.

"James did very well for Hull City," Albion manager Tony Pulis told the club's official website. "I've had a good chat with him and he's the type of player I like.

"He's young, a strong character, a good defender, he has good feet, and he has the Manchester United stamp all over him, just like Ryan Shawcross and Darren Fletcher. They're wonderful lads and I'm told James is as well.

"Steve [Bruce] gave him a great mention, and there is no better accolade than Steve Bruce giving a defender a good drum roll."

Chester, 26, made 171 appearances for Hull after signing from Manchester United in 2011, but couldn't stop the Tigers being relegated from the Premier League last season.
