Jefferson Farfan has completed his move from Schalke to Al-Jazira, with the Bundesliga club admitting that neither they nor the player could turn down such a lucrative deal.
Schalke's director of sport Horst Heldt spoke of a "financially enormous offer" for the 30-year-old, who "asked us if he could leave" after receiving the bid from the United Arab Emirates.
The deal suited both player and club, with Farfan's move going through on Thursday evening after he had passed a medical.
"He was always an important player for us and we missed Jeff last season," Heldt said on his club's website. "We will remember all of the good games he played for us."
Boosted by the funds from the sale of Farfan, who joined Schalke from PSV Eindhoven in 2008, the Royal Blues may now step up their interest in Xherdan Shaqiri of Inter Milan, who is surplus to requirements at the San Siro.
