Thiago Alcantara has extended his contract with Bayern Munich until 2019, with German daily Bild reporting he will make up to €9m per season. The salary would make the 24-year-old one of the club's highest earners.

"We are pleased that Thiago has decided to stay at FC Bayern in the long-term," wrote chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge on the club's website on Thursday. "He's young and an important player for the future of the club."

Despite having joined Bayern in July 2013, back-to-back knee injuries in 2014 have restricted Thiago, who only made his comeback last April, to just 41 appearances.

Ribery woe
Meanwhile, there is no end in sight to France winger Franck Ribery's ankle injury misery. The 32-year-old has not played since limping out of Bayern's UEFA Champions League last-16 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in March.

"You can't imagine how annoying it is," Ribery fumed. "I am really doing everything I am told, but the pain just won't go away."
