Carpi claim first win, Verona derby ends level

Brazilian Ryder Matos hit a second-half winner as newcomers Carpi claimed their first win in Italy's Serie A with a shock 2-1 defeat of Torino on Saturday. Meanwhile, hosts Chievo fought back from a goal down to claim a share of the spoils from the city derby with Verona, which finished 1-1, to move up to fourth in the table.
Hosts Carpi found the breakthrough ten minutes after the restart when Gabriel Silva's drive struck the near post and came back off Torino goalkeeper Daniele Padelli's shoulder for an own goal. Matos doubled the hosts' lead in the 72nd minute when he nodded Borriello's cross past Padelli and although Maxi Lopez reduced arrears from the penalty spot three minutes later, Carpi held on to claim their a first win in Serie A.
Verona looked to be on their way to also claiming their first victory of the campaign after Eros Pisano put the visitors ahead on 70 minutes at the Bentegodi Stadium. But Argentinian striker Lucas Castro secured a share of the spoils with an 83rd minute equaliser to hoist Rolando Maran's men up to provisional fourth place, just three points behind leaders Fiorentina.
