FIFA Early Warning System (EWS) held an educational seminar in Tokyo, Japan on October 7. The event was attended by delegates from the Japan Football Association (JFA) and Compliance Officers from the Japan Professional Football League (J. League), the Japanese Olympic Committee, the Japan Sport Council, representatives from the Japanese government and law enforcement as well as attendees from betting authorities. The event brought participants up to date with the latest developments and changes in the monitoring and combatting of match manipulation.

EWS has worked closely with the JFA to transfer knowledge and provide technical facilities which have greatly assisted in tackling the threat match manipulation poses to the integrity of football in the region. One of EWS’ key activities is monitoring betting markets for irregularities and analysing specific match situations in their sporting contexts.

“Workshops like this one are an important part of our work and contribute to safeguarding the integrity of football. Today’s seminar showcased that the JFA and J. League are strong partners in the global fight against match manipulation.” said FIFA’s Director of Security Ralf Mutschke.

EWS plays an essential role in FIFA’s Integrity initiative as well as in the areas of risk prevention and management in addition to information gathering.
