Stuttgart moved off the bottom of the German Bundesliga on Sunday after a 1-1 draw against Werder Bremen ended a run of three successive heavy defeats. Stuttgart had conceded 12 goals in their last three games - 4-0 against Bayern Munich, 4-0 to Augsburg and a 4-1 loss against Borussia Dortmund - but they were ahead on Sunday after 33 minutes.

Lukas Rupp latched on to a fine ball from Filip Kostic to score. Bremen levelled after 71 minutes when Nigerian striker Anthony Ujah pounced on a ball from Levin Oztunali to score his seventh Bundesliga goal of the season. Stuttgart, who have the leakiest defence in the top flight, are second from bottom, a point ahead of Hoffenheim while Bremen are fourth off the foot but just one spot off the drop zone.

Darmstadt won their Hesse derby clash against fellow mid-table side Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 thanks to a header from captain Aytac Sulu on the half-hour mark. It was the first league clash between the two neighbours since 1982.
