EXCLUSIVE - Carli Lloyd, FIFA Women's Player of the Year 2015
2015 was officially Carli Lloyd’s year. The American’s hat-trick in the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ Final not only steered her team to the title but also earned her the adidas Golden Ball as player of the tournament.
This remarkable performance seemed to confirm that Lloyd is born to score important goals, having netted the winner against Brazil in the final of the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament 2008 before repeating the trick again four years later with a brace in the Stars and Stripes’ 2-1 victory over the Nadeshiko.

“I was one of three finalists,” a visibly moved Lloyd told FIFA.com after the gala. “Celia [Sasic] and Aya [Miyama] are phenomenal footballers and honestly, you never know. This is one of those things when your nerves are going, your heart is beating and when my name was called, it was one of the best moments ever.”
Lloyd considers this fantastic start to the new year to be a good omen ahead of USA’s qualifying campaign for this year’s Women’s Olympic Football Tournament. “I think 2016 is going to be good,” said the 33-year-old before acknowledging that much will be expected of her in the coming months. “I have to continue working really hard and continue to improve and continue to help my team in any way possible. All eyes are on Rio and qualifying.”
