The second edition of the FIFA Women’s Football and Leadership Conference will focus on promoting equality through reform, featuring high-profile figures from the world of sport, politics and business such as recently retired world champion Abby Wambach and Sylvia Schenk, an arbitrator at the Court of Arbitration for Sports.
Registration is now open for the conference, which takes place at the Home of FIFA on Monday 7 March 2016 to coincide with International Women’s Day.
Other guest speakers include Michael Kimmel, a professor of sociology and gender studies and top decision makers within FIFA such as Lydia Nsekera, Sonia Bien-Aime and Moya Dodd.
South African broadcaster Carol Tshabalala will act as MC during the event, with further keynote speakers and panellists to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
The conference will comprise three sessions focusing on the following areas:
1.      The challenges and opportunities relating to the development of women’s football;
2.      The promotion of women in positions of leadership in the sports industry; and
3.      How FIFA’s reforms can achieve greater equality and opportunities for women and girls in football.
Through this annual international conference, FIFA aims to expand its support for women’s football while providing a much-needed platform for debate on advancing women’s roles in sport and society more generally. It follows on from a well-received inaugural conferencein March 2015, as well as other women’s football-focused initiatives such as the 6th FIFA Women’s Football Symposium, held during the record-breaking FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™, and the FIFA Task Force for Women’s Football meeting in August 2015.
More recently, the promotion of women and increasing the role of women in the governance of football have been an integral part of the reform proposals put forward to the FIFA Congress.
The full programme for the FIFA Women’s Football & Leadership Conference will be released closer to the event on FIFA.com and via @FIFAWWC, including the hashtag #IWD2016.
The registration process is now open for the general public – please note spaces are limited. Submit your application by Friday 12 February 2016 and you will then be contacted on the status of your registration: http://survey.fifa.org/s/Y1DOM/
