Some moments in life are unforgettable, and getting the chance to take part in a FIFA Women’s World Cup™ is surely one of them. As if that were not enough, lifting the trophy at the end of the tournament before receiving a hero’s welcome back home must be the best ‘cherry on top’ moment of them all. This is exactly what USA star Carli Lloyd experienced when she left Canada 2015 with both the Women’s World Cup trophy and the adidas Golden Ball as the player of the tournament.

In our interactive video interview on FIFA.com, we invited the FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year 2015 to look back at selected moments from last summer and review the tournament once more.

The memory of her incredible goal from the centre circle to give USA an unassailable 4-0 lead in the World Cup Final against Japan will live long in the memory of Stars and Stripes fans. “You don’t get much time in a game; it’s pure instinct,” Lloyd explained after watching her strike again. “I remember taking one touch and then another to set myself up to launch a ball that far, but before that I looked up to see where the goalkeeper was and saw she was off her line. It’s one of those things that can go really well or really badly,” she continued.

The American revisited not only her own performances but also those of other teams such as England. “I was really very impressed with England,” she said. “We played them before the World Cup. They’re a great team and did very well. I think it was just really good for the game to see so many of these teams perform well that you maybe didn’t think were going to do so,” she added. “They’ll continue to improve and the women’s game in general will keep getting better and better. Long gone are the days where we roll out and dominate every single game. It’s going to be tough and that’s how we like it.”
