“We’ve had two matchdays and I thought it was important for us to take a break,” said France coach Gilles Eyquem after taking his side on an excursion to Port Moresby’s verdant Nature Park.

“We’ve been a little bit cooped up in our hotel since the start of the tournament and we wanted the players to get some fresh air and see a little bit of Papua New Guinea and its people,” added Eyquem, who saw his players tighten up as they stumbled to a 2-2 draw with Ghana in their second Group C match at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Papua New Guinea 2016.

“It’s good for team spirit,” continued the France boss, who was disappointed to see his side register another draw to go with the goalless stalemate with USA in their opening game. “It’ll help us put that setback behind us, because I think we could have done better.”

If our photo gallery is anything to go by, Les Bleuettes enjoyed their day out. The players were all smiles as they toured the Nature Park, where they got up close to the local flora and fauna and shared some magical moments with a group of smiling schoolchildren.

“This little trip together will help us to clear our minds, get back on track and prepare better for the match against New Zealand,” added Eyquem. “We’re gunning for that place in the second round.”
