40 days to go: A Trophy fit for champions - FIFA CONFEDERATIONS CUP

40 days to go: A Trophy fit for champions - FIFA CONFEDERATIONS CUP

40 days to go - the trophy

The height of the FIFA Confederations Cup Trophy, which one lucky captain will lift above his head after the Final in 2017, is 40cm. Weighing 8.6kg, it is 2.5kg heavier that the FIFA World Cup™ Trophy.

The bronze and gold-plated Trophy was designed in 1997 when the tournament came under FIFA’s aegis. Two gold ribbons are wrapped around the central body in a festive, dynamic movement. They visually connect the six medallions arranged around the upper segment of the base – each bearing the name of one confederation – with the globe. The globe references the six continents whose national teams participate in the tournament. The Trophy recently underwent a touch of modernisation and was fitted with a re-designed, cone-shaped base to complement the family of FIFA trophies.

Of the eight teams competing at the tournament in Russia, only Mexico have won the trophy before. Who will manage the feat this time?
