The reaction from the Germany camp following their 3-2 triumph over Australia in their opening Confederations Cup fixture focused on an excellent first half but a second period that left room for improvement.

"We had a very, very good first 45 minutes and linked up well," said head coach Joachim Low after the final whistle. "Unfortunately the score was just 2-1 when it should have been more comfortable for us. But a lot of players were making their debuts at a tournament like this. Overall I'm very satisfied."

For team captain and Budweiser Man of the Match Julian Draxler, the number of missed chances in an outstanding first half was the main point of criticism: "After the break we lost our rhythm a bit. But it was important to pick up our first three points. That's what counts. We'll have to be much better against Chile."

Low's counterpart Ange Postecoglou said he believed his charges showed Germany too much respect: "In the first half we sat too deep. That wasn't good and we weren't really able to get into the game. At half-time I tried to tell the team to take a few more risks. The important thing for me is that they have the right attitude, and they did here."

Ultimately, however, the reigning world champions left the field with a narrow victory. "That's the positive thing we can take from this," said midfielder Julian Brandt. "Not everything was good, but that's normal. It was the first group game. Winning was the minimum requirement."
