Veracruz cruise, Puebla see off Queretaro
Veracruz moved up to second in the Mexican Liga MX Clausura after cruising to a 3-0 victory at Atlas. Daniel Villalva opened the scoring just before half-time and Julio Cesar Furch made sure of victory with a brace, finding the net in the 77th and 88th minutes, to take advantage of Club America's 1-0 defeat at home to Club Universidad de Guadalajara.
Luis Telles scored the only goal of the game just after the half hour, with the hosts unable to get back into it, and their night was compounded by the late dismissals of Pablo Aguilar and Jose Guerrero.
Matias Alustiza bagged a double as Puebla moved up to fourth courtesy of a 4-1 hammering of Queretaro. Flavio Santos' opener midway through the half was added to by a brace of strikes from Alustiza before half-time, and although Emanuel Villa hit back shortly after the break John Pajoy's 56th-minute effort wrapped up a comfortable win.
Jonathan Bottinelli and Jose Vazquez scored in the final seven minutes to give Leon a 2-1 win over Santos Laguna, who had taken a 23rd-minute lead through Carlos Izquierdoz.
Rafael Sobis, Joffre Guerron and Jesus Duenas lifted Tigres Monterrey to a 3-0 victory over rock-bottom Unam Pumas, whose hopes suffered a blow when the score was goalless after Jose Van Rankin was given his marching orders.
