Shrewsbury pestered by players
Shrewsbury's chief executive Matt Williams believes the power is returning to clubs and revealed they have players "pestering" to join.
Town signed 17 new faces in the summer and are fourth in League Two after just one defeat from their opening six games.
The loan window for Football League clubs has also reopened, allowing clubs to borrow players for up to three months.
Williams has refused to rule out further signings and said out-of-work players have re-evaluated their demands.
"At the higher level money dictates but lower down the Football League the supply outstrips the demand and players have to be realistic," he said.
"We have players who didn't want to drop down pestering us now.
"We've had a couple who we showed interest in during the early part of the summer who still aren't fixed up pestering us to come on trial or play in the reserves. There's been a reality check that they are out of work and it's September.
"We're always looking for ways to improve but it has to be the right sort of player. We are not going to sign someone for the sake of it. We must have met 40 or 50 players in the summer but it's important to get the right characters and people who will buy into what you're doing."
Boss Micky Mellon was nominated for August's Manager of the Month, losing out to Morecambe's Jim Bentley, as Shrewsbury began with three wins and two draws.
They also knocked Premier League side Leicester out of the Capital One Cup before losing their unbeaten record with a Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat to Preston last week and Saturday's 2-0 reverse at Hartlepool.
They go to Stevenage on Saturday and Williams insists he is pleased with their start.
"Micky is an infectious character and has put together a group who want to right the wrongs of last season," he said, after relegation from League One last term.
"One thing I have noticed is that it's the hardest I have seen a group of players work. They regularly do double sessions and it builds togetherness which is exactly what we need."
