Steve Evans tips Jonson Clarke-Harris to lead Rotherham line for 10 years

Steve Evans tips Jonson Clarke-Harris to lead Rotherham line for 10 years

New Rotherham striker Jonson Clarke-Harris can lead the line at the club for the next 10 years, according to boss Steve Evans.

The 20-year-old, who made his senior debut aged just 16 years and 21 days for Coventry, joined the Millers from Oldham late on transfer deadline day for a club-record fee, thought to be in the region of £300,000, signing a three-year deal.

The Leicester-born frontman scored nine goals in 55 games for the Latics and Evans insists he is a purchase for both the present and the future after he chose to join the Millers over other clubs.

"He can be leading the line anywhere he wants," Evans said. "There were a number of clubs who were after him.

"It's not always about money. It's sometimes about development, it's sometimes about platform. The lad had Premier League interest but sometimes it's about longer-term development.

"He could have gone there and had a season in the reserves or the Under-21s but he didn't want that. He made it clear he wanted to be at a club.

"He has a lot of potential but at the same time, he is also ready for the Championship."
