Stoke City's Brek Shea moves on loan to Birmingham

Stoke City's Brek Shea moves on loan to Birmingham

Birmingham City have signed USA international Brek Shea from Stoke City on a three-month emergency loan.

The 24-year-old winger joins the Championship side with no recall option in place for a deal that will run up to and including Saturday 13 December.

He goes straight into the squad and is in contention for a start in Saturday's home game against Leeds United, live on Sky Sports.

Birmingham boss Lee Clark told the club's official website: "I've been chasing Brek for a while and actually wanted to sign him permanently at the start of the season.

"He impressed me when he played for Barnsley here at St Andrew's on New Year's Day and, given our recent injuries, it made sense to make this loan move, importantly with no recall clause being something that I have stressed all along."

Texas-born Shea arrived at the Potters from MLS outfit FC Dallas in January 2013 and has made five first-team appearances.

Shea moved to Barnsley on loan last January and made eight appearances for the Tykes.

Having represented his country from U17 through to U23 level, Shea has gained 27 senior caps for USA and scored twice, including the winning strike in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup final against Panama.

He becomes the third American in the current Birmingham squad alongside compatriots Jonathan Spector and Will Packwood.
