Roy Keane can help me earn England recall
Tom Cleverley hopes Roy Keane’s influence can help him get back into the England squad.
Keane, now assistant manager at Aston Villa, is working with Cleverley during his season-long loan at Villa Park from Manchester United.
The midfielder has been left out of Roy Hodgson’s squad for the Euro 2016 qualifiers against San Marino and Estonia but Cleverley believes the work he is doing with Keane – in the news this week following more revelations in his latest autobiography – will help him gain international recognition once again.
He told the Daily Star: “Roy is demanding. He’s trying to add things into my game that I know I can do.
“He’s pushing me to my limits and hopefully we can get that extra couple more per cent. When things need saying, he says them.
“At United you’re told to play the right way and sometimes last year maybe I was being too much of a perfectionist.
“Sometimes you can take a few more risks which are needed to win games. That’s a side of my game which Roy and the manager (Paul Lambert) are getting back.”
