Fernando Torres insists Luis Suarez is already a huge player for Barcelona, but needs to score more goals
Luis Suarez is already a "fundamental" player for Barcelona, according to his Liverpool predecessor Fernando Torres.
Suárez, who left Liverpool for Barça in a £75m deal last summer, has struggled for goals this season, managing just five strikes in 18 appearances.
The Uruguayan has been outshone by the likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar, although he has chipped in with 11 assists.
And Atletico Madrid's Torres, who left Anfield on the same day that Suárez arrived on Merseyside back in January 2011, was full of praise for the Uruguayan.
He told AS: "He is fundamental. [He does] the dirty work and the work that isn’t dirty. He is a very good player.
"You have to realise that Luis comes from making 50 goals in a team in which he was the one who made the goals. At Barça you have to start to substract that amount because Messi makes 50 a year. That is normal.
"There is a need to make more goals, he will do it. Against us in the match in the Calderón, that damage that was done to us was done by him."
