Red Bulls, Earthquakes in the winner's circle
New York Red Bulls kept up the heat on MLS Eastern Conference leaders New York City FC with a 2-0 home victory over DC United on Sunday.
English striker Bradley Wright-Phillips opened the scoring after 25 minutes and his countryman Lloyd Sam made the points safe in the 71st minute.
The victory brings Red Bulls to within a point of their Big Apple rivals - and Jesse Marsch's men have a game in hand.
Elsewhere, San Jose Earthquakes beat Chicago Fire 2-1 at Avaya Stadium.
Fatai Alashe (5') and Ty Harden (21') gave the Earthquakes a winning lead, which Chicago halved through Harry Shipp in the 29th minute.
