FIFA Women's World Cup and adidas celebrate National Volunteer Week - FIFA WOMEN'S WORLD CUP
Volunteers for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ celebrated National Volunteer Week at adidas locations in Montreal and Vancouver marking the 50-day countdown to the Opening Match between Canada and China PR in Edmonton on 6 June.
Over 2,000 volunteers will sport the adidas uniform this summer, contributing over 80,000 volunteer hours, as Canada has the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of welcoming the world from coast to coast. The competition’s volunteers comprise over 100 nationalities representing the diversity of Canada's multi-cultural country. Volunteers will play an important role in establishing a meaningful legacy for sport and women’s soccer in Canada. As the primary point of contact with fans, friendly, helpful, and engaging volunteers will have a lasting positive impression on spectators, media, the general public and visitors coming to Canada.
Several FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ volunteers were the stars of the fashion shows, modeling the uniforms and sharing their personal stories and commitment in giving back to the sport community.
“I look forward to participating in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™, especially since I stayed several weeks in three of the four countries that will be playing in Montréal in Group E – Spain, Costa Rica and Brazil,” said Amélie Cloutier, a volunteer in Montréal. “Soccer is a unifying and lively sport in which we can experience the cultural differences and the recognition of women’s soccer on the international stage.”
The adidas volunteer uniform takes its inspiration from the official look for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™, incorporating the key maple leaf pattern called Pride & Honour which shows abstract interpretations of important Canadian natural elements. The track top is vibrant red and incorporates cascading yellow and orange maple leaves. The t-shirt is also red and features a simple layout on the front with a burst of colour is visible on the back of the t-shirt near the bottom which shows a portion of the Pride & Honour motif. Volunteers will also be provided with black adidas shorts and pants.
To complete the look, volunteers will be provided with a bold, red and white rain jacket, ball cap with a full-colour emblem embroidered on the front, and red and charcoal grey adidas shoes with the emblem featured on the tongue.
“These volunteer uniforms really capture the excitement and significance of this event - I can’t wait to put one on and be around the stadium,” said Janice Birch, FIFA Women’s World Cup™ Vancouver volunteer. “I am so proud to be part of the Canada 2015 team and I look forward to the experience.”
Volunteers in the six host cities will help ensure the success of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ by giving their time in 14 different roles, from accreditation to transport to media services – to name a few. A comprehensive training program will be delivered to all volunteers to prepare them for their role in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™.
The FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ adidas volunteer uniform will not only be visible from coast to coast this summer as volunteers nationwide join in the action, but it will also serve as a souvenir for volunteers and a reminder of this once-in-a-lifetime experience for years to come.
