Quebec says 'bonjour' to Trophy Tour - FIFA WOMEN'S WORLD CUP
Following the spectacular launch event in Ottawa at the start of April, the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola travelled east to the French speaking province of Quebec, to the cities of Montreal and Quebec City.
Through a range of public and VIP events, citizens of Quebec had the opportunity to see the trophy that will be the centre-piece of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™. In Montreal the Trophy Tour experience spent time at the Fairview Pointe Claire as well as making a special visit to the Boys and Girls Club of Canada, while in Quebec City it found a home at Laurier Quebec in addition to visiting Cardinal-Roy Secondary School (École Secondaire Cardinal Roy).
Travelling through this unique province in Canada, we learnt that Quebec has the largest population of French-Canadian descent – who are commonly referred to as Québécois (masculine) or Québécoise (feminine). About 80 per cent of Quebec's population are native French speakers, and 95 per cent of the population speak French as their first or second language.
Across the whole country, approximately 7.3 million Canadians speak French as their mother tongue, according to Census Canada 2011, which equates to 22 per cent of the population (second to English at 58.4 per cent).
