Pedro will not consider his Barcelona future until the end of the season
Barcelona forward Pedro admits he is in a tricky situation at the club but hinted he will not consider his future until the end of the season.
The 27-year-old, who came up through the ranks at Barcelona, is the fourth-choice forward at the club behind Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.
Given that coach Luis Enrique always lines up with three attackers, Pedro is often the man left out, and he has been linked with a summer switch away from the Nou Camp as he approaches the final year of his contract.
Arsenal, Liverpool and Bayern Munich have all been touted as possible destinations for the Spain international, but the player himself says he will wait to make a decision over his future.
Speaking after Barcelona’s 4-0 win over Almeria on Wednesday, Pedro said: “I am in a difficult situation, when the moment arrives I will speak with the club.”
The comfortable win over lowly Almeria allowed Enrique’s men to maintain their four-point lead at the top of the table.
The Catalan giants, who are also in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and the final of the Copa del Rey, are still on course for a domestic and European treble, and Pedro admits the mood in the Barca camp is a positive one.
He said: “We are where we want to be, we would have all signed up for this before the start. Now comes the most important part of the season and we hope to be at the level.
“I enjoyed it on the pitch, returning to play. We took the three points and that’s the most important thing.”
Pedro could have marked his return to the first team with a goal late on when he found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but he unselfishly opted to play in Luis Suarez, who slotted into an unguarded net to grab his second strike of the night.
The Spain international explained his decision to tee up the Uruguayan, stating: “I decided to give it to Suarez because he was on his own. I am happy with the assist.”
