Columbus Crew claimed their first away win in nine months to trim DC United's lead at the top of the MLS Eastern Conference back to eight points on Wednesday.
Columbus had not picked up a three-point haul on their travels since beating New York Red Bulls last October but leading scorer Kei Kamara's 41st-minute strike - his MLS-leading 13th of the season - against Chicago Fire ended that poor run.
It was also Columbus' first clean sheet since April and allowed them to close the gap on pacesetters DC United, who they also still boast a game in hand on.
Chicago, meanwhile, remain rooted to the foot of the table after failing to build on their surprise win over the Seattle Sounders last time out.
