Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has pulled out of the England squad for the UEFA EURO 2016 qualifier against Switzerland at Wembley on Tuesday because of injury.
England are seeking a win which would put them top of Group E but must do without Carrick, an unused substitute in Saturday's 6-0 away rout of minnow San Marino. The FA announced the news on Twitter, saying the Red Devils' midfielder return to his club.
However, the exact nature of the 34-year-old's injury was not disclosed. The 33-times capped Carrick has not played for England since March's draw in Italy and, as a result, has missed the last three matches.
United play bitter rivals Liverpool in the English Premier League on Saturday.
