Governor: U-20 showpiece a great opportunity for Port Moresby - FIFA U-20 WOMEN'S WORLD CUP

Port Moresby, the capital city of Papua New Guinea, will rise to the challenge of being a host city for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
That was the vow made by the Governor of the National Capital District, Honourable Powers Parkop. The proud governor told journalists that he has tasked the National Capital District Commission with preparing to provide services that are required to complement the hosting of this global showpiece.
“I want to thank FIFA for having the confidence in our capital city to award this tournament to us, allowing us to host this spectacular international event,” said Parkop. “It is a challenge to meet FIFA standards but it’s also a great opportunity for our city, our people and our nation to ensure that it is a great success.”
Mr Parkop added that he is confident of the tournament reaping many benefits for Port Moresby by transforming the city’s landscape through the many developments taking place in preparation.
“We will also use the tournament to promote gender equality and I am calling on every city residents to embrace the games,” he said. “We would like to promote Port Moresby as the regional hub for sports creating a pathway for our young people and this tournament will surely be a catalyst towards creating that opportunity.”
The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Papua New Guinea 2016 will take place between 13 November and 3 December.
