Germany edged Spain 3-2 on penalties after a goalless draw to win the UEFA European Women's U-17 Championship, though both semi-finalists booked places at the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Jordan 2016 along with England, who finished third in the competition.
Spain were the first to find their win into the continental final in Belarus, emphatically seeing their way past Norway 4-0. All four goals came in the second half, with Silva Rubio striking just after the break, before a late onslaught saw three scored in the last ten minutes. Lorena Navarro got two of them, having already seen an effort disallowed, to take her tally for the tournament up to five.
Germany's passage to the final was less straightforward, eventually getting the better in of England in a 4-3 thriller. Twice Anouschka Bernhard's team initially led, and twice the Three Lionesses equalised within two minutes. However, after Tanja Pawollek's free-kick and Vanessa Ziegler's second of the game it proved too much for England, even though Alessia Russo - who also got two - give her side hope in the final three minutes.
England earned their spot at Jordan 2016 at the second time of asking, beating Norway 2-1 in the play-off for third place, with Niamh Charles scoring either side of Sophie Haug's equaliser for the Scandinavians. Meanwhile, Caroline Siems scored the game-winning penalty for Germany in the final to lift the continental crown after 90 scoreless minutes at the Borisov Arena.
