George Moncur looking to impress at Colchester
George Moncur is still hoping to make the breakthrough at West Ham United but is using a loan spell at Colchester United as a shop window.
The 21-year-old midfielder is following in the footsteps of his father John in forging a career at Upton Park.
There are, however, proven Premier League performers currently blocking his path and game time has been sought away from east London.
A productive start to a short-term stint at Colchester has delivered two goals in five appearances, but results have not gone as planned and manager Joe Dunne has paid the price with his job.
Moncur is trying to remain focused on his game, though, with there a desire on his part to test himself at the highest possible level and an opportunity to reassess his options in January.
The youngster told the Daily Star: “It’s hard going to a new team, especially when you do not know what is going to happen.
“I am a positive person, I look to the future and the next match in front of me and how I can affect it.
“Obviously I want to play for West Ham, but I also want to catch the eye of bigger teams, which is understandable.
“I really like playing here and enjoy it. But I am just going to play each game as it comes and see what happens when my loan is up in January.”
