Sweden will join France and Germany as in Rio de Janeiro this summer after qualifying for the Women's Olympic Football Tournament, sealing Europe's final spot at the 12-team competition. In a mini-tournament featuring four teams vying for the final spot, determined by their performance at last summer's FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015, Sweden topped Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland to punch their ticket.

It was not an easy path for the Swedes, however, and a tense final matchday in the Netherlands set-up a nervy finish. With Sweden needing only a point to qualify, hosts Netherlands opened the scoring but Olivia Schough equalised right before the break. The Oranje had several chances to go ahead, but Sweden's backline held firm and with a point secured from the hard fought 1-1 draw, Pia Sundhage's side can look forward to the Olympic Tournaments' draw at the Maracana in April.

Rio 2016 will be Sweden's sixth appearance at the Women's Olympic Football Tournament, having qualified for each previous edition since the competition was created at Atlanta 1996. Their best performance came at Athens where they finished fourth.
